Wednesday's Word ~ Carnal-mindedness, part 8

A changed mind, is a Changed life

Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will. – Romans 12:2

Topical study: Carnal-mindedness, 8

Choosing to have a changed mind

2 Corinthians 10:4-12

New International Version (NIV)

4 The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds. 5 We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ. 6 And we will be ready to punish every act of disobedience, once your obedience is complete.

7 You are judging by appearances.[a] If anyone is confident that they belong to Christ, they should consider again that we belong to Christ just as much as they do. 8 So even if I boast somewhat freely about the authority the Lord gave us for building you up rather than tearing you down, I will not be ashamed of it. 9 I do not want to seem to be trying to frighten you with my letters. 10 For some say, “His letters are weighty and forceful, but in person he is unimpressive and his speaking amounts to nothing.” 11 Such people should realize that what we are in our letters when we are absent, we will be in our actions when we are present.

12 We do not dare to classify or compare ourselves with some who commend themselves. When they measure themselves by themselves and compare themselves with themselves, they are not wise.

What's on Your Mind?

We are concludig this month's messages on Fueling our minds. We must realize that no matter where we find ourselves, God's Word will help us to rise above it and become all that He says we can. We must realize God's love, power and strength will help us to rise. Listen to this week's song and then view the message, Fueling the Mind - Rely on Godly Wisdom. Let's talk....

Fueling the Mind: Rely on Godly Wisdom

So a man thinks, so is he ~ What are you thinking?!

“Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus:” Philippians 2:5

Fueling the Mind: Rely on Godly Wisdom

Psalm 26:1-3 (NIV)

1 Vindicate me, LORD, for I have led a blameless life; I have trusted in the LORD and have not faltered. 2 Test me, LORD, and try me, examine my heart and my mind; 3 for I have always been mindful of your unfailing love and have lived in reliance on your faithfulness.

Ecclesiastes 7:24-26 (NIV)

24 Whatever exists is far off and most profound—who can discover it? 25 So I turned my mind to understand, to investigate and to search out wisdom and the scheme of things and to understand the stupidity of wickedness and the madness of folly. 26 I find more bitter than death the woman who is a snare, whose heart is a trap and whose hands are chains. The man who pleases God will escape her, but the sinner she will ensnare.

Wednesday's Word - Carnal-mindedness part 7

2 Corinthians 6:16-7:1

New International Version (NIV)
16 What agreement is there between the temple of God and idols? For we are the temple of the living God. As God has said: “I will live with them and walk among them, and I will be their God, and they will be my people.” 17 Therefore, “Come out from them and be separate, says the Lord. Touch no unclean thing, and I will receive you.” 18 And, “I will be a Father to you, and you will be my sons and daughters, says the Lord Almighty.” 1 Therefore, since we have these promises, dear friends, let us purify ourselves from everything that contaminates body and spirit, perfecting holiness out of reverence for God.

What's On Your Mind?

This song is perfect for this week's message. We know that God loves us but often times we do not want to accept God's absolutes. We want to believe that God simply loves us and if we don't keep His ways, it's okay. Listen to this song, No Gray by Jonathan McReynolds and then click on the message for this week, Fueling the Mind: Reverence Godly Wisdom. Let's Talk......

Fueling the Mind - Reverence Godly Wisdom

So a man thinks, so is he ~ What are you thinking?!

“Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus:” Philippians 2:5

Fueling the Mind: Reverence Godly Wisdom

1 Samuel 2:34-36 (NIV)

34 “‘And what happens to your two sons, Hophni and Phinehas, will be a sign to you—they will both die on the same day. 35 I will raise up for myself a faithful priest, who will do according to what is in my heart and mind. I will firmly establish his priestly house, and they will minister before my anointed one always. 36 Then everyone left in your family line will come and bow down before him for a piece of silver and a loaf of bread and plead, “Appoint me to some priestly office so I can have food to eat.”’”

Wednesday's Word: Carnal-mindedness part 6

A changed mind, is a Changed life

Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will. – Romans 12:2

Topical study: Carnal-mindedness

Choosing to have a changed mind

Romans 7:14-8:2

New International Version (NIV)

14 We know that the law is spiritual; but I am unspiritual, sold as a slave to sin. 15 I do not understand what I do. For what I want to do I do not do, but what I hate I do. 16 And if I do what I do not want to do, I agree that the law is good. 17 As it is, it is no longer I myself who do it, but it is sin living in me. 18 For I know that good itself does not dwell in me, that is, in my sinful nature.[a] For I have the desire to do what is good, but I cannot carry it out. 19 For I do not do the good I want to do, but the evil I do not want to do—this I keep on doing. 20 Now if I do what I do not want to do, it is no longer I who do it, but it is sin living in me that does it.

21 So I find this law at work: Although I want to do good, evil is right there with me. 22 For in my inner being I delight in God’s law; 23 but I see another law at work in me, waging war against the law of my mind and making me a prisoner of the law of sin at work within me. 24 What a wretched man I am! Who will rescue me from this body that is subject to death? 25 Thanks be to God, who delivers me through Jesus Christ our Lord!

So then, I myself in my mind am a slave to God’s law, but in my sinful nature[b] a slave to the law of sin. 1 Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus, 2 because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit who gives life has set you[c] free from the law of sin and death.

Fueling the Mind: Rehearse Godly Wisdom

Deuteronomy 11:18-20

New International Version (NIV)

18 Fix these words of mine in your hearts and minds; tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads. 19 Teach them to your children, talking about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. 20 Write them on the doorframes of your houses and on your gates, 21 so that your days and the days of your children may be many in the land the LORD swore to give your ancestors, as many as the days that the heavens are above the earth.

Wednesday's Word - Carnalmindedness part 5

A changed mind, is a Changed life

Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will. – Romans 12:2

Topical study: Carnal-mindedness

Choosing to have a changed mind

1 Corinthians 2:10-16

10 these are the things God has revealed to us by his Spirit. The Spirit searches all things, even the deep things of God. 11 For who knows a person’s thoughts except their own spirit within them? In the same way no one knows the thoughts of God except the Spirit of God. 12 What we have received is not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, so that we may understand what God has freely given us. 13 This is what we speak, not in words taught us by human wisdom but in words taught by the Spirit, explaining spiritual realities with Spirit-taught words.[a] 14 The person without the Spirit does not accept the things that come from the Spirit of God but considers them foolishness, and cannot understand them because they are discerned only through the Spirit. 15 The person with the Spirit makes judgments about all things, but such a person is not subject to merely human judgments, 16 for, “Who has known the mind of the Lord so as to instruct him?”[b] But we have the mind of Christ.

Wednesday's Word: Carnal-mindedness, part 4

A changed mind, is a Changed life
Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will. – Romans 12:2
Note: We talked last month about being carnal-minded. We are going to continue that study this month as well. We want to focus more this month on how to combat being carnal-minded, or put another way, we want to learn how to do what we need to do regardless of how we feel emotionally or what our flesh wants. We will focus on how to live by the spirit and not by fulfilling the desires of our soulish nature.
Definition: Another way for us to define carnal-mindedness is to say that we are ruled by how we feel; emotionally we are led to respond to our emotions good or bad, rather than what God’s Word states is right. We are ruled by our own thoughts instead of what God’s Word and His Spirit shows us is right. Being carnal-minded in essence is us relying on our own abilities: thinking, feeling, seeing instead of what God states.
(Recap: Results of being carnal-minded)
1.      Carnal mindedness leads to death.
2.      Carnal mindedness leads to hostility toward God.
3.      Carnal mindedness leads to displeasing God.

1 Peter 1:15-16

“But just as he who called you is holy, so be holy in all you do; for it is written: “Be holy, because I am holy.””
