Wednesday's Word ~ Romans 12:17-21





17 Do not repay anyone evil for evil. Be careful to do what is right in the eyes of everyone. 18 If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone. 19 Do not take revenge, my dear friends, but leave room for God’s wrath, for it is written: “It is mine to avenge; I will repay,”[d] says the Lord. 20 On the contrary:

“If your enemy is hungry, feed him; if he is thirsty, give him something to drink. In doing this, you will heap burning coals on his head.”[e] 21 Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.

We continue with our second part of what love in action looks like. We talked last week about love being a choice. It is making a decision to do something. We then must begin to think in a loving way. This is where Paul continues with love in action. Love has a look to it

9 Love must be sincere. Hate what is evil; cling to what is good. 10 Be devoted to one another in love. 17 So I tell you this, and insist on it in the Lord, that you must no longer live as the Gentiles do, in the futility of their thinking. 18 They are darkened in their understanding and separated from the life of God because of the ignorance that is in them due to the hardening of their hearts. 19 Having lost all sensitivity, they have given themselves over to sensuality so as to indulge in every kind of impurity, and they are full of greed.

20 That, however, is not the way of life you learned 21 when you heard about Christ and were taught in him in accordance with the truth that is in Jesus. 22 You were taught, with regard to your former way of life, to put off your old self, which is being corrupted by its deceitful desires; 23 to be made new in the attitude of your minds; 24 and to put on the new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness.

What's On Your Mind?


This song is from Psalm 51:10 where David ask God to create a clean heart in him. We are studying this year about having the right mind. In order to have a right heart, we must also have a right mind (right thinking). Listen to this song and be blessed!

A Guarded Mind


Philippians 4:6-9

6 Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. 7 And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

8 Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things. 9 Whatever you have learned or received or heard from me, or seen in me—put it into practice.

Be anxious about anything, is the same expression found in Matthew 6:25 “Take no thought for your life” Therefore the call was not to allow the difficulty in life to make you immobile. Paul met with difficulty when he was at Philippi. He was scourged (One meaning or translations of scourged actually means thorn in the side), he was afflicted and put into stocks (Acts 16:23-24), yet he did not let this change his thinking on the positive things that could come from Philippi. The beginning of the church was very small there. Lydia was converted there, and the jailer and a few more but that did not discourage him. He continued to have a mind fix on the good things, therefore he had a guarded mind. Therefore he could speak to the people about what it meant to have a guarded mind.
